Rain could not stop comfortable win

The weather on the day was trying its hardest to match that of Old Trafford. By at time of match start, however, it had actually managed to stop raining, although the outfield was pretty soggy. Asker won the toss and chose to bat.

Tom Cason opened the bowling, all cylinders firing. First wicket fell on the fourth ball. Taking advantage of a mad dash attempt by their batsmen try to get their first run on the board, Damon ensured a run-out with a good throw from mid-wicket. Erik followed suit with a wicket with the fourth ball of his first over - a nick being picked up by Anshul’s gloves. Erik then went one better in his second over, picking up a second wicket (again nicked to Anshul) and then a third, caught by Tom. Four wickets down by the end of the fourth over, for just 8 runs.

Asker tried to gain some composure, but good bowling and fielding by Aliens ensured it remained slow progress for them. By the time Aaron got his first wicket in the 8th over (caught by Achal), Asker has still only just clawed their way to 33 runs. Aaron got a second wicket in the 11th (caught Milton). Rasel, making up for his collision with the baseball pitch mound in an attempted catch a couple of overs earlier, then picked up the 7th wicket the next over, caught by Benan’s armpit(!)

There was at this point lightning visible on Tanumåsen, rapidly making its way towards the pitch, and rain stopped play in the 13th over. Asker at this point being 49-7.

Rain eventually cleared, and while Asker was extremely reluctant to resume play, hard broom-work by the Aliens got the pitch back in a condition sufficiently dry that Asker were no longer able to chicken out.

Aliens were set a target of 48 off 13 over.

Erik and Marcus headed for the middle, and after easing in with a single in the first over, upped the pace and batted at an accelerating run rate. Asker tried some theatrics to prove the pitch was dangerous, but to no avail. Erik finished off the target at the first ball of the 6th over.

Aliens won by 10 wickets.
