Arrrrgh !!!! Alarm sounds , one eye open ,fingers find the snooze button, peace once again .
Two eyes open drag myself out of bed , bones making the normal cracking and creaking sounds . Notification sound from the phone , what now ? Yay cricket today !!! there is a god and a reason to keep moving , check the weather report , sunny 19 -20 with a slight breeze , perfect.
Pack the bag , even eat an omlett , a long time since i have been this organized , thank god for covid19.
Jump in the car , get there 1 ½ hours early to beat the traffik . Unpack the car with a spring in my step and then it hits , rain ! No matter how much money and many people are invested in predicting the weather Norway will always prove you wrong.
The team turns up , all in great spirits, the atmospheare positive despite the rain Umpires umming and Ahhing about when we can get started, finally it clears , we have only lost 2 overs , let the games begin.
Pre-game pep talk from the captain, Ok , boys , everyone will get a bowl today , let´s get out there and do our best , be positive and have fun.
Then the onslaught began , Kalbakken didn´t know what hit them , wicket after wicket falling faster then they could put their pads on .
A glitch in the scoring app , meant that the scorer lost all control over what was happening with the innings and his failing to have a pen with him made it impossible to keep order .
All 11 Aliens players bowled and got triple hat-tricks , even the keeper who didn´t even bother to takes his pads off.
Finally the umpies cottened on to what was happening , when the false beard of one of the batsmen fell off and they recognized him as one who had already batted 4 times , they confired with the scorer and called the innings to a close.
Highlights in the field were without doubt , Matthew , with a total disregard for personal saftey or injury continuously performing dives that would make both Superman and Malcolm Bremner proud, turning the impossible into the almost likely chances of catches only to be robbed by sun in the eyes , wet ground conditions , solar flears and the sudden shift of the earths magnetic field, and the teaming up of Dennis and Benan , Dennis with cat-like agility, fielded the ball one handed off a solid cover-drive, flipped it straight into the waiting hands of Benan , who in a display of unequaled sportsmanship and compassion for his fellow man, began to give the ball a thorough shine as he walked pass the stumps and back to his bowling mark with the batsman still 4 meters short of his crease.
The Aliens batting was just as impressive as the bowling , all 11 batsmen scoring 9 ball 50´s and retiring for the next to take over. A resounding win for the Aliens , breaking all Norwegian records for bowling and batting , we are still waiting for confirmation from the ICC , but we are all positive that this days performance is also a world record both with the ball and bat.
