Ryan Air
Written by Lindsay Ritchie
Monday, 23 January 2006

In keeping with the spirit of this being a cheap and cheerful tour, Ryan Air is to be our carrier to and from Scotland. Ridiculously low prices for airfares don't come without a few rules though now do they? The most important information is listed here:

  1. Baggage regulations: Max. 15kg for checked-in baggage and max. 10kg for hand-luggage
  2. Excess baggage charges: GBP 5,50/EUR 8 per kg overweight baggage
  3. Sports equipment (ie golf clubs, cricket bags) may incur an additional charge of 200 kr. per flight (400,- kr in total).
  4. The weight of the above mentioned sports item(s) must not exceed 32kg.

I have spoken to Ryan Air and they advise that since we are a large travelling group we should allow plenty of time at the airport. How strictly they enforce these rules depends on how full the flight is it seems.

Is it now possible to book your place on next years Scotland tour online! Follow the link below and then fill out the online form. It will help me keep control over things having everybodys information in one place.

The hotel we will be staying at, the Dunnikier House Hotel (http://www.dunnikier-house-hotel.co.uk/) should be large enough for our needs. I will be possible to find alternative accomodation however should we fill up the Dunnikier House Hotel, but we'll wait to see what kind of numbers we get.

It's first come first served at this hotel I'm afraid, so book your place early!

Fill out the online registration form here.

Scotland Tour - Thursday 11th to Monday 15th May, 2006

Background for the Tour

Sunday 14th May, 2006 – Dunnikier CC vs Oslo Aliens CC

Dunnikier Park, Kirkcaldy in the Kingdom of Fife is to be the scene for an historical match between local side Dunnikier Cricket Club and the Aliens.

The match will be one of a number of events marking the 150th Anniversary of competitive club cricket being played in Dunnikier Park by Dunnikier Cricket Club.

In 1856 the former owners of the grounds at Dunnikier Park, the Oswald family, permitted a group of young men to play cricket matches on a section of their Estate. Cricket has therefore been played in one form or another in Dunnikier Park since this time.

Through ties with former Dunnikier player and prodigal son, Lindsay Ritchie, the Aliens have been invited to be the opponents in a challenge match marking the occasion. The match is to be the cornerstone of the Aliens first ever overseas tour.

Tour details

A 4-night tour is planned for between Thursday 11th May and Monday 15th May, 2006. Discussions are ongoing with other local Fife clubs to arrange at least one other match during the tour, either for the Friday evening or Saturday afternoon.

We will fly with Ryan Air from Sandefjord Torp to Glasgow Prestwick and then travel by coach up to Kirkcaldy. We will be staying at the Dunnikier House Hotel, which is incidentally the Oswald family’s former residence.

Wifes/partners/children are encouraged to join the team on tour and there will be plenty of time for non-cricketing activities. So what is there to do in and around Kirkcaldy?

-          Fife is as many know the home of golf. So there is an abundance of golf courses.

-          Edinburgh is only a 45 minute train journey away.

-          Fife’s east coast is very picturesque. It’s worth a car drive.

Cost of the tour

The price per person is expected to be around 3.500,- to 4.000,- NOK. Included in the price:

-          Return flight Sandefjord Torp – Glasgow Prestwick – Sandefjord Torp

-          Coach hire to/from Glasgow Prestwick airport to/from Kirkcaldy.

-          4 nights at the Dunnikier House Hotel inkl. breakfast.

-          Coach hire to/from 1 away game (to be announced).

The exact cost depends very much on the price of the air tickets. These are expected to be put on sale from end of September/beginning of October. We will therefore start to take bookings fairly soon so that we can snap up the cheapest tickets when they become available.
